Kenya is the perfect place to answer the call of the wild. It is the land of the Masai Mara, of wildebeest and zebras migrating in their millions which brings the great predators of Africa, lions, leopards and cheetahs. Endangered species like black rhinos manage to maintain their precarious foothold. Kenya is also home to the red elephants of Tsavo, to Amboseli elephant families in the shadow of Mt Kilimanjaro and to the massed millions of pink flamingos stepping daintily through lake shallows. Day 4 – Masai Mara Balloon Safari

This morning you will be going for the early morning balloon safari. You will be picked at the hotel by the Balloon Company at 5.30am and drive to the balloon launch site where you will gather for takeoff. Enjoy early morning ballooning over the plains, getting a bird’s eye view of the game below as the sun creeps slowly over the horizon.

After approximately one hour aloft, the balloon lands while a breakfast is being prepared for us nearby. The smell of bacon, sausages and eggs drifts on the breeze as we sample exotic Kenyan fruits, homemade pastries and, if you wish, glasses of bubbly to toast our flight, a tradition initiated by the Montgolfier brothers.

A full day is spent game viewing and exploring this natural wonder with a visit to the Mara River, where the wildebeest migration takes place. Here, you can see both the hippos and the crocodiles that coexist in the same waters. The Masai Mara is Kenya’s most popular safari destination, and for good reason. It is a vast reserve of endless flat grassland crossed by rivers that play host to wildlife’s most spectacular moments. Its biggest drawcard is the Wildebeest Migration, when vast hordes of wildebeest roar through the park, bringing in its trail a wake of mighty predators. If you’re lucky enough to be in Masai Mara during the migration, pick a spot by the river and watch enraptured as crocs and lions compete to pick off stragglers from the clattering herds of wildebeest.

This evening we have the opportunity for a night drive. Night game drives provide guests with an opportunity of seeing animals not usually encountered on a daytime game drive such as spotted and striped hyena, mongoose, jackal, civet, genet, porcupine and bush baby. Salt Lick Safari Lodge have highly trained rangers equipped with powerful spotlights to take guests on this experience of a totally different world after dark, when you may have the thrilling opportunity to see a predator actively hunting.

Most predators are more active at night so night drives also provide the opportunity of experiencing the ‘Circle of Life’.

We visit the Sheldrick Trust Elephant Orphanage. During this time the orphans can be witnessed enjoying a milk feed and mud bath (or soil dusting on cooler days). The visit is intended to provide an opportunity for visitors to learn about the work of the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in the rescue and rehabilitation of orphaned elephants, with one of our Keepers giving a talk throughout the visiting hour, during which time they will tell the stories of the different orphans in our care and explain about the process of raising milk dependent baby elephants.

With information provided about the wider threats facing elephants and the reasons there are orphans, as well as the work being done by the Sheldrick Trust and other organizations to protect elephants and wildlife in Kenya, the visit is both educational and informative. Throughout the talk, the elephants will be enjoying themselves eating greens, drinking their milk, playing with one another and on hotter days splashing about in the mud.
Then we go to Giraffe Manor for the evening. Giraffe Manor is an exclusive boutique hotel, owned by The Safari Collection. Often referred to as one of the most instagrammed properties in the world, Giraffe Manor is set in 12 acres of private land within 140 acres of indigenous forest in the Langata suburb of Nairobi. Giraffe Manor is one of Nairobi’s most iconic buildings. The historic manor house has extraordinary appeal, that harks back to the 1930s when visitors first flocked to East Africa to enjoy safaris. With its stately façade, elegant interior, verdant green gardens, sunny terraces and delightful courtyards, guests often remark that it’s like walking into the film Out of Africa: indeed, one of its twelve rooms is named after the author Karen Blixen.
One of the most fascinating things about Giraffe Manor is its resident herd of Rothschild’s giraffes who may visit morning and evening, poking their long necks into the windows in the hope of a treat, before retreating to their forest sanctuary. Why a travel club for women?

Through our own clients and networking clubs we have realized a general desire for women to travel but they don’t always have a companion. We developed the Women’s Travel Club for these women to have a fun and safe group to travel with. We offer a wide range of destinations, so that there is something for everyone.

What is the average age of the women who travel with the Women's Travel Club?

We have women of all ages, with the average being 45 to 65 years. However, we do have regular travelers anywhere from 30 years to over 80 years of age.

Does the price of the tour include international flights?

We do not include international flights in the price of our tours. Not including the cost of international flights in the cost of the tour allows members the flexibility to get the flight schedule, price and class of service that best suits them. The Women's Travel Club flight desk will be happy to help arrange your international flights.

Can I have my own single room?

Yes, we always negotiate the best possible single supplement rate for our trips. Single spots fill quickly and may be limited so we suggest you book early for a single spot.

Can you find me a roommate?

Yes, each of our booking forms has an area for you to request to be matched with a roommate. We get some general information that will help us match you with a great new friend.

Do I need a Visa to travel to Kenya?

As of January 1, 2024, passengers travelling on a Canadian or US passport, will no longer require an e-visa for travel to Kenya. Instead, they are required to apply and pay for an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) prior to their arrival to Kenya. Before applying, please make sure your passport is valid for at least 6 months after your departure date from Kenya. What will the weather be like in Kenya?

The best time to visit Kenya is from June to October when there's virtually no rain and daytime temperatures are not too hot. In October, the average daily maximum is 25 C (77°F) and the average daily minimum is 16 C (61°F).

Do I need any specific vaccinations to travel to Kenya?

While no vaccinations are required for travel to Kenya, proof of a Yellow Fever vaccination is required if you are coming from or have transited through an airport of a country where Yellow Fever occurs. Be sure that your routine vaccinations are up-to-date before traveling. You should visit a travel clinic or doctor prior to this tour to discuss and get recommendations specific to you and your medical history. It is recommended to take anti-malarial medication during this tour.
