This morning we visit one of the world’s most beautiful waterfalls. Its seven tiers offer a unique experience at every climb, reaching up to 1,500m (4921 ft). Swim in the turquoise pools, snap photos from the top tier, and opt to hike in the jungle to spot monkeys.

Dinner this evening will be a special treat as we cruise down the river aboard a converted 1930s rice barge. Enjoy a delicious Thai meal while taking in the incredible views of the city.

Day 4
Women's Travel Club Thailand Tour - Chiang Mai
Chiang Mai

This morning we will explore the ruins of Ayutthaya, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Ayuthaya served as Thailand’s capital from the 14th to 18th centuries, when it ranked as one of the most magnificent cities in the world. Late in the 17th century its population reached one million, and foreign visitors wrote awestruck accounts of its size and splendour. The ruins of the old city now form the Ayutthaya Historical Park, an archaeological site that contains palaces, Buddhist temples, monasteries and statues. The park is on an island between 3 rivers. After lunch we will return to Bangkok for our flight to Chiang Mai. Chiang Mai is a city in mountainous northern Thailand. Founded in 1296, it was capital of the independent Lanna Kingdom until 1558. Its Old City area still retains vestiges of walls and moats from its history as a cultural and religious center. It’s also home to hundreds of elaborate Buddhist temples. Travel to the nearby countryside and enjoy a khantok-style dinner — a must-do when you reach northern Thailand. Khantok in the Northern dialect means wooden tray, used for carrying dishes, round in shape and made of teak wood. The host will invite guests to sit on the floor around the khantok. After dinner, enjoy tea time with the opportunity to talk with local people to learn their way of living.
Accommodations: Duangtawan Hotel Chiang Mai

Day 5
Women's Travel Club Thailand Tour - Chiang Mai Market
Chiang Mai

After enjoying amazing Thai cuisine for days it is our turn. Following a visit to the local markets with a chef we will enjoy a Thai cooking class at a private culinary school, then have the dish for lunch. After lunch we will visit the 14th-century Wat Chedi Luang Buddhist temple in the heart of Chiang Mai’s old city. Sit down with young monks to discuss daily life and Buddhism, and leave feeling spiritually refreshed. Monk Chats are informal discussions at a round table with a prepschool age Monk, usually accompanied by their teacher. Monk Chats are a great cultural exchange, but is also important in helping the young Monks improve their English. Next we will visit Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, a golden Buddhist temple outside of Chiang Mai on the Mt Doi Suthep. Climb 300 steps to reach the temple and be rewarded with an unforgettable view. Admire the many Buddhist relics at this sacred temple and visit the white elephant shrine. Legend has it that the location of the temple was chosen after a white elephant carried a relic to the mountain and trumpeted three times before dying on the spot. Also, with a little luck, you may witness the chanting of the monks.

Volunteers and visitors contribute to the healing while learning about their lives past and present.

4 Star Rating

"Thought the tour was v good. Maybe should be paced a little slower due to heat in Thailand."

". Overall it was a good tour, I saw what I expected to see plus some.
Highly recommend expanding the Cambodia tour to include more temples, etc for those interested in history of the Angkor Empire and the artistry/craftsmanship of that time period. Would need to make clear the focus is on history and the culture thereso people don't get bent out of shape at having to wear 'temple clothes'."

Becky

WTC Reply - Thanks for your feedback Becky. We have now added a great 9 day Cambodia Tour to our selection.

"Da (local guide) was very informative and helpful with regard to any requests. Tour was good overall. A lot of temples for my taste."

Kathy

4 Star Rating

"Overall impression was good. Had a little issue/inconvenience with the hotels right at the beginning of the tour however we were compensated appropriately for the issue. Feel it shows a lot as to how issues are resolved and feel it was resolved adequately."

Lesley

4 Star Rating

"Good - excellent guide ensured vans and other forms of transportation were ready and waiting with one exception which was not her fault ( local company let her down). One day seemed a bit of a waste of time for what we saw - Muslim village and fish restaurant."

Maureen

4 Star Rating

"Few itinerary changes caused stress for some of the travelers but otherwise selection of activities was good. Was good to see history of the country and to interact with the people."
