Start your Great South experience in Memphis with a 2 night stay at the Graceland Guest house. Then we will travel the Lower Mississippi with American Cruise Lines, an experience like no other. Enjoy customized excursions from iconic ports in Oak Alley and Natchez where you gain an insiders’ perspective of classic antebellum homes and renowned plantations. Delve deep into the history of the Civil War in Vicksburg as an American Cruise Line historian leads you through the National Military Park commemorating the campaign, siege, and defense of this city.
Then on to fun and fabulous New Orleans. We will visit plantations, brave a swamp tour and learn to cook like a cajun on this amazing 5 day Big Easy experience.

Day 1 - Arrive

Welcome to Memphis!
Home to Blues, BBQ, Beale Street, and of course, the King of Rock 'n Roll - Elvis Presley. This amazing city is the perfect place to begin your Mississippi River Voyage. Check into the famous Graceland Guesthouse, the rest of your day at leisure. We will have a welcome meeting this evening to get acquainted with our group.

Day 1 - Graceland
Any trip to Memphis is not complete without visiting Graceland to explore the home of the King. This unique pre-cruise experience at Elvis’ home includes a 2-night stay at the Graceland Guest House with Ultimate VIP Pass & Tour. You’ll tour the museum dedicated to Elvis’ career, his famous car collection, his custom jets, and of course, his mansion, with an expert guide.

Day 3 - Embarkation

This morning we will meet you in the lobby of the hotel to bring you to the ship for an easy boarding process. Welcome to the Queen of the Mississippi, your home for the next 7 nights. Accommodations - Queen of the Mississippi

Day 4 - Day of Cruising

Bask in the warmth of the Mississippi River sun as we cruise from Memphis to Vicksburg. Relax in one of the many spacious lounges or enjoy a gentle breeze on the sun deck.

Day 5 - Vicksburg

The city of Vicksburg served as a pivotal turning point during the American Civil War. Come with us as our informative historian leads us through the National Military Park, commemorating the campaign, siege, and defense of Vicksburg. Our expert guides and park rangers will take you to battlefields, the U.S.S. Cairo gunboat, and the most significant historic places. The night before our visit, our onboard Civil War historian gives a captivating lecture detailing all you are about to witness at Vicksburg National Military Park. After a hearty southern-inspired breakfast, you will be greeted by our private tour guide who will stay with you throughout the day to answer questions and provide additional information. Upon arrival at the park, rangers who are well-versed in Civil War history guide you on a customized tour that’s specific to the interests of the group. Your guides will take you through the restored ironclad gunboat, U.S.S Cairo, the battlefield where the Siege of Vicksburg took place, and the over 1,300 monuments dedicated to the brave souls who lost their lives.

Day 6 - Natchez

Settled in 1716, Natchez is rich in history and southern hospitality. Enjoy a guided exploration of this fascinating city which has retained its antebellum charm since its surrender during the Civil War. Visit Frogmore, a historic cotton plantation still in use today, or attend a special piano concert in the J. N. Stone antebellum music room.

Day 7 - St Francisville

This southern town charms with simple pleasures and unique treasures. Located on the bluffs of the Mississippi River, St. Francisville has been called, “One of the 200 most beautiful small towns in America.” Take a stroll through its historic center where two centuries of architecture and lifestyle are on display. Enjoy visits to restored antebellum mansions including Rosedown.

Day 8 - Baton Rouge

Baton Rouge features all the history and wonder you would expect in a state capital, but with an added down-home flavor that makes it truly unique. Our local expert guides will take you on a tour of the cities' most famous attractions including the Old and New State Capitols and the interactive Louisiana State Museum.

Day 9 - Oak Alley

Once serving as an antebellum sugar cane homestead, Oak Alley Plantation is named after its most distinguishing feature, a row of 300-year-old oak trees. This leafy canopy forms a path leading to the Mississippi River. Restored to its 19th-century grandeur, this classic Greek Revival antebellum mansion is simply breathtaking.

Day 10 - New Orleans

Welcome to New Orleans, also known as the Big Easy, where art and culture abound. The open-air artist colony proudly displays local works on the iron fence in Jackson Square, while the city’s 45 museums carefully preserve its rich history. We will transfer to our hotel for check-in.
This afternoon we will head out on a Food & History Tour through the French Quarter. We will learn how this unique cuisine evolved and taste some famous dishes. It is the perfect way to get acquainted with this fabulous city and the food that makes it famous.

Day 11 - Plantation & Swamp Tours

We will board our luxury tour bus this morning and head out four our plantation tours. Step back in time as we tour Laura, A Creole Plantation. Learn about life for a wealthily, southerner or the past. Now onto to Oak Alley Plantation on the west bank of the Mississippi. Enjoy a comprehensive tour of this majestic and historic plantation.
Now we journey to the other side of New Orleans for a completely different type of tour. We will get up close and personal with the Honey Island Swamp of New Orleans. Our private boat tour will take us through the swamp to experience the unique flora and fauna of this area.

Day 12 - New Orleans School of Cooking

New Orleans is famous for it's food and today we will today we will taste and learn all about this exceptional cuisine. We will start the day at the New Orleans School of Cooking for our private, hands on cooking class. In small groups we will be guided through cooking a multi-course Louisiana lunch. Fun is the primary ingredient in this cooking class. Lunch will included beer and wine and we will each get a New Orleans Cooking School apron to bring home.
Enjoy some free time this afternoon to explore and shop. We will meet for dinner at the famous Tujaques restaurant.
After dinner we will enjoy a haunted history tour. The spirits of the city’s past inhabitants are just ‘dying’ to be discovered on this extraordinary New Orleans experience. This is a great way to learn the Creole history of the Big Easy in the creepiest and scariest manner possible!

Day 13 - French Quarter & Garden Tour

Now that we are starting to get to know this amazing city lets take a close look at the French Quarter. Our culinary history and tasting tour will take us down historic streets and alleys of the Old District, passing by the street theater, peeking into historic churches, discovering hidden courtyards, all while entertaining you with stories of authors, artists, priests and pirates. After a break for lunch we will head out to the garden district. Just a short streetcar ride from the French Quarter, it feels worlds apart. We will stroll the leafy, magnolia shaded streets of the Garden District and a city of the dead, Lafayette Cemetery #1. This walking tour is not just mansions and manicured gardens, but stories of legends, tragedy, epidemics, lost causes, movie stars, celebrity chefs, and haunted spirits.
Tonight will be a fantastic farewell dinner with excellent food and entertainment.

Day 14 - Depart

Time to say good-bye to fabulous New Orleans and amazing new friends. Depart for airport as need for flight home

If you would like the double occupancy rate but don't have a roommate we will match you with a suitable roommate. The single occupancy rate will give you your own room. Single occupancy very limited.

Please do not book flights until after Oct 1, 2019 unless instructed to do so by the Women's Travel Club. If not enough ladies are booked by the booking deadline then this tour may be cancelled. If the Women's Travel Club cancels the tour all payments made will be refunded.

Debbie is equally as organized on tour as she is in the office and will make sure everything is well taken care of.
