ITINERARY

Day 1 – Arrive Colombo
On arrival in Sri Lanka, you will be met and assisted by our Airport Representative, who will direct you to your vehicle for your transfer to Negombo (Approx. drive time – 20 minutes),
Once a trading port for the Dutch and British, Negombo has developed into a bustling modern town with a handful of reminders of its colonial past. Situated close to the international airport, it makes a convenient rest stop before heading inland to explore.

Day 2 – Negombo – Sigiriya – Habarana
After breakfast, we leave for Habarana. En route climb the rock fortress of Sigiriya – a 5th Century “Fortress in the Sky”. Built by King Kassapa the fortress was a Royal Citadel for more than 18 years. The lion rock (a UNESCO world heritage sight) is a citadel of unusual beauty, rising 200 meters from the scrub jungle.

Day 3 – Habarana – Anuradapura – Habarana
After breakfast, we set off to Anuradhapura (Approx. drive time – 1 Hour & 15 minutes) to visit the sacred ancient city of Anuradhapura. Founded in the 4th century B.C a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1982. It has the largest number of ancient monuments of the great Sinhala civilization, which flourished in this region.

Day 4 – Habarana – Minneriya
After breakfast, we leave for Hiriwadunna village (Approx. drive time – 10 minutes) to enjoy a traditional cooking session at a local house. Sri Lankan traditional cooking techniques take their best form in the southern part of the island. The cuisine relies heavily on the core ingredients of coconut, vegetables, rice, fresh chilies, spices, and curry leaves, all of which grow in abundance on this part of the island. Spend the day learning how to cook a traditional Sri Lankan meal and enjoy lunch.

Day 5 – Habarana – Kandy
After breakfast head to Dambulla (Approx. drive time – 30 minutes) and explore the famous Golden Rock cave temple that has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A sacred pilgrimage site for 22 centuries, this cave monastery, a vast isolated rock mass with its five caverns is the largest best preserved cave-temple complex in Sri Lanka.

Day 6 – Kandy
After breakfast, we will visit the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens where a rare collection of tropical exotic and indigenous flora including the famous Orchid House could be viewed. Surrounded on three sides by the Mahaweli River, these botanical gardens were founded in 1824 and are still home to one of world’s largest collections of plants and trees. Giant ficus trees, palms, an orchid house and a vast array of trees such as ebony, teak, satinwood, mahogany and tamarind can be seen here.

Day 7 – Kandy – Nuwara Eliya
This morning we will take the train from Kandy station to Nanu Oya through sceneries of rolling mountains and green valley’s.Meet up with the driver and leave for the hotel in the beautiful town of Nuwara Eliya, set in the heart of Tea country and situated 1890 meters above sea level, is where the British succeeded in creating an English countryside with homes in styles from Georgian to Queen Anne.

Day 8 – Nuwara Eliya
After an early breakfast, leave for Horton plains, the highest plateau in the country. It is one of the very important National parks in Sri Lanka especially for its topographical variations. It has unique vegetation and is famous for many rare and endemic highland birds. The most awesome physical feature of the Horton Plains is the escarpment that falls 880 meters to the lowlands of the southern region of the island.

Day 9 – Nuwara Eliya – Udawalawe – Yala
After breakfast, we leave for Udawalawe. Once we arrive we will commence a Jeep safari at Udawalawe National Park which lies south of the central hills in the island’s dry zone. An important eco-tourism destination, the Park consists of dry lowland forest, riverine forest, thorny scrublands and grasslands.

Day 10 – Yala National Park
Early morning proceed on a Game drive around Yala National Park. Sit back and relax on your safari as you try to catch a glimpse of some of the wonderful Sri Lankan wildlife. Yala is Sri Lanka’s most famous national park. Forming a total area of 1268 sq. km of scrub, light forest, grassy plains and brackish lagoons, it’s very rich in wildlife and you’re virtually certain to encounter elephants, crocodiles, buffaloes and monkeys.

Day 11 – Yala – Galle – Beruwela
Today we will drive towards the pristine southern beaches in Bentota. Enroute we will visit Galle Dutch fort in Tuk Tuks driven by Women of the Rosie May Foundations.

Day 12 – Beruwela
A laid back coastal town on Sri Lanka‘s south coast, Beruwela embodies the charm of island living. With easy-going fishermen, the age-old cinnamon trade and isolated beaches. This is the perfect end to a wonderful trip.

Day 13 – Beruwela
Enjoy your last full day in Sri Lanka. Today is yours to explore, relax on the beach or the pool, take in a tour or indulge at the spa. The options are endless. We will meet tonight for a last, farewell dinner.

Day 14 – Depart Sri Lanka
It is time to say good-bye to this beautiful destination and fabulous new friends. Transfer for the airport as needed for your flight home.

Roommate Matching Policy
Roommate matching is done as a courtesy and while most matches result in wonderful friendships, success is not guaranteed. If during the tour you decide you would no longer like to share a room with your roommate you will need to request (and pay for) a single room at all accommodations. This can be shared between the two people in the room if it is a mutual decision. If you are a very light sleeper or snore you may want to consider getting your own single room.

Through our own clients and networking clubs we have realized a general desire for women to travel but they don’t always have a companion. We developed the Women’s Travel Club for these women to have a fun and safe group to travel with. We offer a wide range of destinations, so that there is something for everyone.
We have women of all ages, with the average being 45 to 65 years. However, we do have regular travelers anywhere from 30 years to over 80 years of age.
We do not include international flights in the price of our tours. Not including the cost of international flights in the cost of the tour allows members the flexibility to get the flight schedule, price and class of service that best suits them. The Women's Travel Club flight desk will be happy to help arrange your international flights.

The weather in February remains pleasant, with beautiful sunny days on the west and south coasts and in central Sri Lanka. There is minimal rainfall in these regions and temperatures can rise to over 30 degrees.
