In Arabic, a ‘Dahabeya’ literally means the golden one. And we think the name truly represents the experience and the mood it sets. Dahabeyas take you on a journey to the charm of an old era of tranquility, when people in Egypt used to cruise and enjoy the beauty of the Nile every winter.
Generally, a Dahabeya is a two-masted sailing boat, bigger than a felucca, but smaller than a commercial Nile cruise. Because they work with no engines, you get to enjoy the sound of the water and the birds chirping above you while you take a break from the bustling city noise. Dahabeyas were more common during ancient Egypt and the monarchy, as leaders, officials, and the country’s wealthiest people would used them as a mode of transport and leisure.
Our Dahabeya marked her maiden voyage in 2021. She is a larger Dahabeya with three decks and perfect for small groups. There is a large salon on the bottom deck available to provide you with a relaxing and divine setting to enjoy reading, relaxation, playing board games, meditation and workshop space for all types of groups. The top deck is a spacious sun-deck, there you will find sunbeds and seating areas to enjoy the sun or relax in the shade. Buffet dining area with views of the Nile at sunset and sunrise that takes your breath away. The pièce de résistance is our Aquarium Room, this room is fully glassed so you can feel outside but inside this room is set up for mediation, yoga and workshops or the dining area with the weather is cold and windy. There are also several different Egyptian and Bedouin-style seating areas around the Dahabiya to sit back and enjoy the view of Egypt and life on the Nile River.
