Day 9 – Nuwara Eliya – Udawalawe – Yala

Day 9 – Nuwara Eliya – Udawalawe – Yala

One special attraction of the park is the Udawalawe reservoir and the Walawe River that flows through the park. It is most famous for the many elephants that live in the park along with water buffalo, spotted & barking deer, wild boar, sambar, jackals, mongoose and more. Though the leopard, jungle & fishing cats have been spotted in the park, sightings are very rare. This fascinating park is also a great location for bird enthusiasts.

Afterwards visit the Udawalawe Elephant Transit Home that cares for orphaned elephant calves and re-introduces them into the wild, where you can get close to these gentle giants. The Transit Home is a lively place. Feeding the calves with milk happens every three hours throughout the 365 days of the year.

Thereafter continue your drive to Yala.
