Day 7 – Isabela Island | Sierra Negra Volcano | Arnaldo Tupiza Breeding Center

Explore the Sierra Negra Volcano, boasting the Galapagos’ largest basaltic caldera, spanning 6.2 miles (10 km) in diameter. This site offers stunning vistas and the chance to observe up to seven finch species, along with a diverse array of vegetation. The caldera’s north side showcases evidence of its most recent volcanic activity in 2005. In the afternoon, head to the Arnaldo Tupiza Breeding Center, located approximately one mile (1.5 km) from Puerto Villamil. Here, tortoise populations from various locations including South Isabela, Sierra Negra Volcano, Cerro Azul, Cazuela, Cinco Cerros, Roca Union, San Pedro, Tables, and Cerro Paloma have been successfully bred in captivity, totaling 330 juvenile and adult tortoises.
