Day 6 – Isabela Island | Urbina Bay | Moreno Point

Urbina Bay, situated at the foot of Alcedo Volcano on the west coast between Tagus Cove and Elizabeth Bay, underwent a significant uplift in 1954, causing the land to rise over 16 feet and expanding the coast half a mile out, leaving marine life stranded on the new shore. This area is also ideal for snorkeling. In the afternoon, visit Moreno Point, located southwest of Elizabeth Bay, where you can make a dry landing on once-flowing lava. The lava has created craters that now form crystal tide pools, offering a glimpse into another world as marine life drifts by. Keep an eye out for pink flamingos, white-cheeked pintails, and common gallinules in the brackish pools, and if you’re lucky, you may spot white-tip reef sharks and sea turtles.
Galapagos wildlife to look out for: Green turtles, sea lions, flamingos, white-cheeked pintails, Sally Lightfoot crab, penguins, reef sharks.
