Day 1 - Arrive Auckland

Welcome to New Zealand!
Upon arrival at the airport this morning you’ll be met by a local guide and assisted with the transfer to your hotel. Hotel check-in time is after 3:00 pm so you may want to store your bags and enjoy some leisure time on your own

Day 2 - Auckland

This morning the tour begins with a short journey over the Auckland Harbour Bridge where you will be treated to some of the best views of Auckland's skyline as we head back to the city, before making our way up Queen Street and on through the Auckland Domain. Situated atop a 62,000 year old volcano, the Auckland Domain is a beautiful inner-city park which offers great views across the harbour to Rangitoto, Auckland's most iconic volcano which last erupted just 600 years ago. Enjoy a visit to the Auckland War Memorial Museum showcasing the story of New Zealand, its place in the Pacific and its people. The Museum is a war memorial for the province of Auckland and holds one of New Zealand’s top three heritage libraries. It has pre-eminent Maori and Pacific collections, significant nature history resources and major social and military history collections, as well as decorative arts and pictorial collections. You are free to explore the museum at your own leisure. At the end of the visit we continue onto Mission Bay, Parnell Village, Auckland’s oldest suburb, full of charm and character. Tour ends back at the hotel. The afternoon is at own leisure

Day 3 - Rotorua

Early this morning, meet your driver at the hotel for the journey to Rotorua including visits to the popular Waitomo Caves and Hobbiton Movie Set Tour en-route. Travel south along the Auckland motorway to the Bombay Hills, and head into the farming province of Waikato. Your coach follows the Waikato River, New Zealand's longest, through Hamilton and Otorohanga to Waitomo. Arrive at Waitomo for a guided tour through the spectacular Waitomo Caves and an underground boat ride through the famous 'Glowworm Grotto'.
After the tour enjoy an early lunch at Roselands Farm & Garden restaurant before continuing onto Matamata for your Hobbiton Tour. Experience the real Middle-Earth with a visit to the Hobbiton™ Movie Set, the bucolic setting for The Shire™ that featured in the Peter Jackson directed films, The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit Trilogies. Your tour starts with a drive through picturesque Waikato farmland to The Shires Rest. The bus will then drive you through the 1,250 acre sheep farm with spectacular views across to the Kaimai Ranges. Your guide will escort you through the twelve acre site recounting fascinating details of how Hobbiton Movie set was created. The Hobbit holes, Green Dragon™ Inn, Mill and other structures created for The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit films can be viewed and you will see how this beautiful piece of Waikato farmland was transformed into The Shire from Middle-Earth. At the end of the tour we continue the journey to Rotorua for the next couple of nights.

Day 4 - Rotorua

After breakfast commence your Rotorua sightseeing visiting various main attractions. First stop we visit Te Puia, New Zealand’s living Maori cultural centre, situated in the Whakarewarewa Geothermal Valley. Te Puia’s 60 hectare site is home to the New Zealand Maori Arts and Crafts Institute, a live kiwi enclosure, the world-famous Pohutu Geyser, and more than 500 geothermal wonders. With land steeped in ancestral history, and a guiding legacy that stretches back to the 1800s, Te Puia offers unique hospitality and rich cultural heritage.
Next we visit the World Famous Agrodome for an authentic farm experience. The Sheep show will take you through a fascinating insight into the world of New Zealand agriculture. During this multi award winning show you will be entertained and informed as a real kiwi shearer (black singlet and all) presents 19 breeds of champion sheep, shears a sheep using the world record Bowen technique, works noisy Huntaway and silent Strong-Eyed dogs and completes the NZ dog trial. Have the opportunity to milk a cow and feed a lamb. After some free time for lunch we visit Rainbow Springs.
Set on 22 acres of beautiful native trees and streams, Rainbow Springs is home to a huge variety of New Zealand’s most precious inhabitants. Enjoy walking through the many free flight aviaries, feed the biggest wild trout you will ever see, come face to face with prehistory in the eyes of a Tuatara – a living dinosaur, watch New Zealand’s own kiwi in their natural environment as they forage for food and admire the native New Zealand bush surroundings with over 90 different native plants, trees and ferns throughout the park. Enjoy a 30 minutes guided tour Behind the Scenes of Kiwi Encounter. See the Operation Nest Egg kiwi conservation project in action as you tour through the incubation, hatch and nursery rooms. Tour ends back at the hotel early afternoon.
Enjoy free time before our dinner and cultural experience.
You will be collected from your hotel this evening by a representative of Tamaki Tours for your combined Hangi (Dinner) and Concert tour. Welcome to a world of ancient Maori and proud warriors - a world that unfolds with a journey back in time through the Maori village of 'Te Tawa Ngahere Pa'. Experience the pre-European lifestyle and customs of the ancient Maori ancestors as the village comes alive with tribal songs, dances and activities. Enjoy a night of truly authentic, traditional culture and entertainment. Feast on a selection of foods cooked the traditional Maori way on hot stones in an authentic earthen oven.

Day 5 - Queenstown

After breakfast this morning you’ll transfer by coach to the airport for your flight to Queenstown. Upon arrival in Queenstown you’ll transfer to your hotel. The balance of the day is at leisure. Queenstown offers stunning scenery, huge range of activities and renowned warm welcome cements its reputation as New Zealand’s favourite visitor destination. Surrounded by majestic mountains and set on the shores of crystal clear Lake Wakatipu, the natural beauty and the unique energy of the region create the perfect backdrop for a holiday full of adventure, exploration or relaxation.

Day 6 - Doubtful Sound

This morning we make our way to the Real Journeys Visitor Centre located at Pearl Harbour in Manapouri. Meet your representative from Real Journeys here and then depart for your overnight Doubtful Sound Cruise.
The Fiordland Navigator is designed along the lines of a traditional scow to reflect Fiordland's heritage. Departing from Manapouri, the journey to Doubtful Sound begins with a cruise across Lake Manapouri. Disembark st West Arm then travel over the Wilmont Pass by coach through dense rainforest. At Deep Cove, board the overnight vessel for a leisurely exploration of Doubtful Sound. Anchor overnight. Possible sightings could include fur seals, dolphins and penguins. Activities include kayaking and excursions in the glass-bottomed tender vessels to explore the coastline.

Day 7 - Queenstown

Today you will enjoy further cruising before your transfer back to Queenstown, arrival back approx. 3.30 PM.

Day 8 - Franz Josef

After breakfast we depart the hotel by private coach for the journey to Franz Josef including sights along the way. We start the journey heading up to Hensman Heights lookout for breathtaking views of the Basin, view the World’s first commercial bungy jump site of A J Hackett Kawarau Bridge, here you may have the opportunity to watch intrepid jumpers hurl themselves off the Historic Kawarau suspension bridge. Next we visit Gibbston Valley Winery for a wine cave tour and tasting where you will gain an abundance of information on the local Viticulture Industry. A 2 course lunch is included at the winery before continuing our journey to Franz Josef arriving late afternoon.

Day 9 - Franz Josef

This morning, enjoy a tour of the glacier valley. This relaxing, interpretive walk to the glacier is the perfect opportunity to learn the role of the Franz Josef Glacier in shaping this remarkable landscape. After a short walk through the regenerating rainforest, the trip continues along the glacier valley with your guide calling stops to explain the unique features of the Franz Josef Glacier and its surroundings. With the emphasis more on geographical information and the glacier's history, you're able to venture beyond the public barriers and right up to the dramatic terminal face of this advancing glacier with your experienced and knowledgeable guide.

Day 10 - Greymouth

After breakfast, depart Franz Josef by private coach and travel to our first stop Hokitika which was first settled in 1860, after the discovery of gold on the west coast. It still has the feel of a 'frontier town'', and there are some lovely old buildings to admire. Greenstone (NZ jade) is the town's treasure these days. From here we continue the journey to Greymouth. Greymouth has a long gold mining history. It's the largest town on the west coast and is known for its awesome seascapes. Visit the popular Montieths Brewery for a guided tour. Nearly 150 years brewing experience, Monteith's Brewing Company has become recognized as the leader in the New Zealand craft beer market. You will be guided through the traditions and heritage of the brewing establishment. Experience and taste the ever changing and innovative brews; some of which are exclusively produced and sold by brewers at Monteith's Brewing Company.
After lunch (own expense) we transfer to the Railway Station for the scenic journey to Christchurch.
The World famous TranzAlpine train leaves Greymouth on the west coast and travels through lush beech forests and past serene lakes. Cross the fertile farmlands of the Canterbury Plains, before arriving in Christchurch on the east coast. On arrival in Christchurch re-board your coach for the transfer to the hotel. Evening is at own leisure.

Day 11 - Christchurch

This morning, we travel by private coach to Akaroa over the beautiful Banks Peninsula on a high summit route which give glorious views of farmlands, Akaroa Harbour, the Canterbury Plains and the distant Alps as well as remote bays indenting the coastline. You have an opportunity to wander around the charming 150 year old French harbour side village of Akaroa with its museum of settlers’ history, art and craft shops and studios. Board your Akaroa Harbour Nature Cruise and experience majestic scenery and stunning wildlife. You'll see the rare, native dolphin - the Hector's or New Zealand Dolphin. There's also the chance to spot the world's smallest penguin, the White Flippered Little Blue Penguin, Fur Seals and other sea birds. Other cruise highlights are a working salmon farm, Cathedral Cave and signs of Akaroa's fascinating past including early Maori, French and British settlement. After the cruise enjoy a 2 course lunch followed by some free time to explore this wonderful township. Later we reboard our coach for the return journey to Christchurch.

Day 12 - Christchurch - Depart

It is time to say good-bye to this beautiful country and the amazing friends you have made along the way. After breakfast we will transfer to the airport for your flight home or continuing on to Australia.
