Welcome to Egypt!
Upon arrival at Cairo airport, transfer by private car or minivan to the hotel and check in. The rest of the day is at leisure.
The adventure begins tonight. Feel free to explore before your welcome meeting, but make sure you’re back in time to meet the group. After introductions, your tour leader will review the details of your tour. After the meeting we enjoy a wonderful welcome dinner together.
Accommodations - Mercure Cairo Le Sphinx Hotel

Day 2 - Saqqara, Memphis & Dahshur

After breakfast, we'll set out on a day tour to Saqqara, Memphis and Dahshur. This trip gives you the opportunity to explore three ancient villages in one day, with the help of a guide. Visit the famous bent pyramid at Dahshur, see the first pyramid ever built in Egypt in Saqqara, and wander through the streets of Memphis; the ancient capital of Aneb-Hetch.
Accommodations - Mercure Cairo Le Sphinx Hotel

Day 3 - Cairo

Embark on a guided tour of the Great Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx. We begin with one of the key highlights of any visit to Egypt, the Great Pyramids of Giza. Your tour will include entrance to the pyramids. While once located in remote desert, they now touch the suburbs of modern Cairo. Also visit the mysterious Sphinx, with its lion’s body and man’s face.
Then we will enjoy a visit to the Solar Boat Museum. It displays one of the pharaoh’s funerary barges which may just be the oldest boat in existence.
Finally we will visit the Egyptian Museum, including the mummy room. With over 10,000 pieces from every period of Egyptian history, including the treasures from the tomb of Tutankhamun, this massive museum is a fantastic place to learn about the country. Your tour guide will direct you to the most important and magnificent items. There is also plenty of free time for you to explore on your own.
Accommodations - Mercure Cairo Le Sphinx Hotel

Day 4 - Cairo

Today we will have a guided tour of Coptic and Islamic Cairo. Coptic Cairo can be found in Old Cairo, one of the oldest sections of the city. Explore some ancient churches and key sites in "Coptic" Egypt's history, including the Hanging Church, Greek Church, Monastery of St. George, and Ben Ezra Synagogue.
Then it is the time to dive into another page of the long history of Cairo, the Arabic and Islamic era. The tour drives you to the citadel, Saladin's fortress, with its huge structure and beautiful marble mosque marking its center. The mosque is definitely on the list of the most beautiful mosques in Egypt.
Accommodations - Mercure Cairo Le Sphinx Hotel

Day 5 - Cairo/Aswan

This morning we will catch an early morning flight to Aswan. Aswan has a distinctively African feel to it. Small enough to walk around and graced with the most beautiful setting on the Nile, the pace of life is slow and relaxing.
Our first stop will be a guided tour of the Temple Philae. The word "philae" means "the end", in reference to this island's placement on what was once the southernmost border of Egypt. Sail across the Nile to the beautiful island, and step into Greco Roman history.
Late in the afternoon, board a local boat, known as a felucca, to take a trip along the Nile. Enjoy the sights and sounds of the river in this busy port city. Our final stop is on the largest of the Nile islands in this area to enjoy a traditional dinner at a local home.
Accommodations - Helnan Aswan Hotel

Day 6 - Abu Simbel - Cruise

Early in the morning, drive to the famed temples of Abu Simbel for a guided tour. Visit the fantastic twin temples of Abu Simbel by caravan there and back. Visit includes about 2 hrs at the site to wander through the different temples and learn more about the construction, history, and relocation of these magnificently preserved structures. The temples, built by Ramses II between 1274-1244BC, would now be under Lake Nasser if not for the wonders of modern engineering.
We will return to Aswan and board our Nile Cruise boat. Enjoy floating down the Nile on a luxury river boat, in between excursions, relax on the outside decks with a drink, watching the passing desert sands.
This evening we will enjoy a Philae Temple Light and Sound Show. As the sun sets, sail across the Nile to Philae island. Witness the Philae temple turned into a time machine through a magnificent sound and light display.
Accommodations - Nile Cruise

Day 7 - Aswan/ Kom Ombo

Following breakfast, we set sail. Before too long it is time for our first shore excursion, with a visit to Kom Ombo, a temple dedicated to Sobek the crocodile god. It still contains an ancient mummified crocodile.
Accommodations - Nile Cruise

Day 8 - Luxor

Continuing cruising the Nile, relaxing and taking in the desert scenery while observing daily life along the river. Arrive to Luxor in the evening.
Accommodations - Nile Cruise

Day 9 - Luxor

Enjoy a full day guided excursion to the famous Valley of the Kings. Rise early to catch the sunrise from the motorboat that will take you across the Nile to the West Bank. From here, ride through farmer's fields to reach the Valley of the Kings.
Descend the narrow, rock-hewn corridors and take in the magnificent decoration and designs of the tombs of the pharaohs at the Valley of the Kings. While the treasure has now all gone, the tombs contain the most incredible paintings of the life of their incumbent and stories from the Book of the Dead; visit three tombs in total, and opt to visit the famous tomb of King (‘Tut’) Tutankhamun. Then visit to the impressive Funerary Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, which seems to rise out of the surrounding limestone outcrops -- it's a reminder of the power women held in the Ancient Kingdom. Last stop is to the two mammoth statues of Amenophis II at the Colossi of Memnon before returning to your hotel.
Descend down into the Tomb of Tutankhamun, the Valley of the Kings' most famous pharaoh. While the treasure has been moved to the Cairo Museum, it is fascinating to enter the tomb that held one of the most intact collection of treasures found in all of Egypt.
Accommodations - Mercure Karnak Hotel

Day 10 - Luxor

Today we will enjoy an excursion to the magnificent temples of Karnak and Luxor. Start with a visit to the Karnak Temple, which was once the centre of all religious life in ancient Egypt. Built and extended by successive generations of rulers, admire the amazing architecture, massive columns, and painted hieroglyphs.
Followed by one of Egypt's most impressive temples, Luxor has been used as a place of worship all the way from it's conception in 1390 BC to present day. Evidence of ancient worship, Coptic Christianity and Islamic architecture are found throughout the temple, illustrating how the regional culture has evolved over several thousand years.
We will also visit the mummification museum. Learn all there is to know about the ancient art of embalming by exploring the world's only Mummification Museum.
Enjoy some free time this afternoon to wander through the bustling local bazaar and check out the wares for sale or visit some more museums.
Accommodations - Mercure Karnak Hotel

Day 11 - Luxor/Cairo

This morning we will fly back to Cairo. Once back in Cairo you can use your afternoon to explore or relax at our hotel. This evening we will have a farewell dinner cruise on the Nile. Enjoy a dinner, and entertainment on a fine cruise boat while sailing the Nile. End the night with a traditional belly dancing and sufi dancing show.
