Entry Requirements

Visa

Canadian and U.S. citizens need a visa to travel to Indonesia. This visa can be obtained upon arrival. The cost is IDR 500,00 (approx. $35 USD).

Passport

Passports must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of entry into Indonesia and must contain at least one blank page for the placement of the Indonesian visa or entry stamp.

Vaccinations
While no specific vaccinations are required, we recommend that your routine vaccinations are up to date and that you visit a local travel health clinic or doctor for advice prior to the trip.

Please note that Polio is present in Indonesia. Polio can be prevented by vaccination. Be sure that your vaccination against polio is up to date. One booster dose of the polio vaccine is recommended for adults. If you are staying more than 4 weeks, you may need to show proof of polio vaccination when you leave the country.

Effective August 30, 2024, all international arrivals, both Indonesians and foreigners, need to complete the SATUSEHAT Health Pass, an electronic health declaration form, accessed at: https://sshp.kemkes.go.id. After completing the form, arrivals will receive a barcode containing their health and travel information. Travellers should save a copy of the barcode to be scanned at airport arrival gates. We recommend completion of the form before boarding a flight to ensure a smoother entry. In addition, body temperature checks will be conducted upon arrival and if a traveller’s temperature exceeds 37.5 degrees Celsius they will be subject to further health screening. The procedures have been introduced as a preventative measure to limit the spread of new Mpox variants. If travellers develop symptoms of the disease within 21 days of arrival, they are advised to seek medical intervention and present their SATUSEHAT barcode.

The Women's Travel Club recommends travelers to be fully vaccinated against COVID. Some countries will require COVID vaccination to enter, it is the traveler's resposibility to insure they meet all requirements.

Travel requirements may change at any time. Please visit your government's travel recommendations page.

Currency

The official currency in Indonesia is the Indonesian Rupiah (IDR). Notes are come in denominations of 1,000, 2,000, 5,000, 10,000, 20,000, 50,000, and 100,000 rupiah. Coins are come in denominations of 50, 100, 200, 500 and 1,000 rupiah. Please note that the Indonesian government only allows you to bring in cash at the maximum value of 100,000,000 rupiah. Cash is still a regular form of payment in Bali, particularly in the smaller shops, for transportation, and for gasoline.

ATMs are easily found in Bali’s most populated areas. ATMs may be more difficult to find in secluded areas such as the north of Bali or Nusa Penida, Ceningan Island. ATMs dispense either 50,000 or 100,000 notes. A sticker will clearly indicate which one.

Visa and MasterCard are the most accepted credit cards in Bali. Many restaurants and shops accept credit cards, particularly in tourist areas, but do not rely on your credit card for payment. Cash, in many cases, is the only acceptable form of payment, particularly in remote areas.

Electric Outlets

In Indonesia there are two associated plug types, types C and FType C plugs have two round pins and type F plugs have two round pins with two earth clips on the side. Indonesia operates on a 230V supply voltage and 50Hz.

A universal all-in-one travel adapter (can be purchased from retailers like Amazon) will allow you to plug in and charge most electronic devices. Most electronic devices have built-in converters. However, if you plan to use North American appliances like hair dryers, flat irons or curling irons you will need a converter.
