There is a low potential for Yellow Fever exposure in Tanzania. Proof of vaccination is required if you are coming from or have transited through an airport of a country where Yellow Fever occurs.

The Women's Travel Club recommends travelers be fully vaccinated against COVID. Some countries will require COVID vaccination to enter, it is the traveler's responsibility to insure they meet all requirements.

Weather

In Tanzania, the long dry season lasts throughout June, July, August, September and October is when rainfall is unusual, even on the islands. Temperatures vary hugely with altitude and location, but it's usually a fine, clear sky and sunny weather – it's a great time to visit Tanzania.

Currency

The official currency of Tanzania is the Tanzanian Shilling (TZS or TSh). Tanzanian banknotes come in denominations of 500, 1000, 2000, 5000 and 10000 Shilling. Tanzanian coins come in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 Shilling. US dollars are also widely accepted in tourist areas. Please note that US dollar notes in poor condition and printed before 2006 are usually not accepted.

Visa cards are the most widely accepted cards. ATMs can be found in most banks in major cities, but can be unreliable at times. ATMs are rare in smaller villages. Please note that ATMs may have a withdrawl limit. There are no guarantees that your credit or debit cards will actually work in Africa. Check with your bank prior to your departure.

Electric Outlets

In Tanzania there are two associated plug types, types D and G. Type D plugs have three round pins in a triangular pattern and type G plugs have two flat parallel pins and a grounding pin. Tanzania operates on a 230V supply voltage and 50Hz.

A universal all-in-one travel adapter (can be purchased from retailers like Amazon) will allow you to plug in and charge most electronic devices. Most electronic devices have built-in converters. However, if you plan to use North American appliances like hair dryers, flat irons or curling irons you will need a converter.
