Coins come in denominations of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50, banknotes come in denominations of 100, 200, 500, 1000, 2000 and 5000 and 1 Czech crown = 100 halers. However, purchases do not use halers or are they provided back in change. Prices are subject to rounding. For example, if the price is 299 crowns and 75 halers, you will pay 300 crowns. If the price is 159 crowns and 20 halers, you will pay 159 crowns.

Many shops, restaurants and tourist centres accept Euros, but change may be returned in Czech crowns.

ATMs can be found in sufficient numbers in Czech towns. Internationally recognized credit cards such as Visa, MasterCard, Plus, Maestro, etc. are accepted in most shops and restaurants.

The official currency of Germany and Austria is the Euro (€). 1 Euro = 100 Cents. Coins come in denominations of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 cents and 1, 2 euros and banknotes come in denominations of 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500 euros.

In Germany, debit cards and major credit cards (American Express, Visa, Mastercard) are accepted, but smaller shops and cafés might only accept cash payments. Therefore, it's wise to have some euro bills and coins on hand.

In Austria, ATM's are widely used and are called "Bankomat". Outdoor venues can be found at most branches of Austrian banks. It's advised to check with your local bank to ensure that your bank card is equipped with the necessary codes. Also, a four-digit PIN is required to access an ATM. Credit cards are accepted in hotels and major restaurants and stores, but are less accepted for purchases in small shops, cafes or grocery stores.

Electric Outlets

In Czech Republic, Germany and Austria there are three associated plug types, types C, E and F. Type C plugs have two round pins, type E plugs have two round pins and a hole for the socket’s male earthing pin and type F plugs have two round pins with two earth clips on the side. Czech Republic, Germany and Austria operate on a 230V supply voltage and 50Hz.

A universal all-in-one travel adapter (can be purchased from retailers like Amazon) will allow you to plug in and charge most electronic devices. Most electronic devices have built-in converters. However, if you plan to use North American appliances like hair dryers, flat irons or curling irons you will need a converter.
